Banque Misr, EgyptAir sign cooperation protocol in digital payments

The partnership was hailed as an expansion of Banque Misr’s achievements in the field of digital payments and support for digitalisation

Egypt’s Banque Misr has signed a cooperation protocol with the country’s flag carrier EgyptAir in the e-collection field to enhance customer experience by leveraging the most advanced technological means at electronic points of sale(PoS).

Banque Misr and EgyptAir agreed to partner in the domain of electronic payments and to offer a wide range of services to customers, including e-collection through points of sale and the official website of the airline.

The partnership was hailed as an expansion of Banque Misr’s achievements in the field of digital payments and support for digital transformation through the provision of electronic solutions to facilitate customer payments – thereby contributing more to the provision of banking and financial services in an efficient and advanced manner.

“EgyptAir and Banque Misr are the two great entities united by the name of the homeland and linked by a long history and it is a continuation of the vision of the pioneer of the national economy ‘Talaat Harb’,” Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation said in a statement.

With a total of 440,000 POS terminals, more than 2,000 websites, 1.5 million electronic wallets and over two million rapid response code transactions, Banque Misr grew its electronic payment acceptance portfolio by 91% in 2022.

Banque Misr expanded digital offerings to customers, in addition to launching the country’s first digital bank. The bank also entered into several agreements and partnerships that promote digital payment solutions to boost financial inclusion across all economic sectors while facilitating the transition to a cashless society.

The protocol enables Banque Misr customers with credit cards to receive a variety of special offers, including the ability to pay for airline tickets in instalments at varying interest rates, whether through EgyptAir’s electronic platforms or any of the carrier’s offices within the country.

The protocol was signed by Head of EgyptAir Airlines Ihab Tahtawi and Vice Chairman of Banque Misr Akef El-Maghraby.
